Biographical / Historical

Alexander George Glendon Hill (fl 1900-1986) was educated at Trinity College, Dublin. In 1923 he took the post of Superintendent of Agriculture, Nigeria, then botanist in 1926. He was made Senior Geneticist, Sugarcane Research Station, Mauritius in 1929, and in 1930 was sent to Java to study cane breeding methods. He was Acting Director of Agriculture, Mauritius, 1930-1932 and Director, the East African Agricultural Research Station, Amani, Tanganyika Territory, from 1937.

Immediate Source of Acquisition

The photographs were transferred to the library in March 1984 as part of a larger donation by Hill originally including some printed material.

Related Materials

Further photographs of the Amani Research Station in German East Africa, c1916 were donated by Hill to the library in March 1986.
