A copy of the obituary contributed by his daughter, June Brandon, to the Journal is inserted in the diary for 1988 (21 Dec.). The journal is written mainly in Collins or Letts desk diaries, each page being filled; the volumes for 1944 to 1951, written on blank paper, were bound by Thomas himself.

Biographical / Historical

Vernon Vaughan Thomas (1904-90) was a binder by trade, who worked for: HMSO bindery, Harrow, Middlesex, in the 1940s; Wilson & Horton, publishers of the New Zealand Herald, Auckland (New Zealand), Sept. 1952-Jan. 1955; the Co-operative Printing Works, Blackfriars (London), 1955 until his retirement in 1968. He was a staunch member of his trade union (later SOGAT), and frequently contributed to his trade union journal The Paper Worker (later the SOGAT Journal).

The papers were bequeathed to the Library by Vernon Vaughan Thomas, 1990.
