Comprises:

  1. Exercise book titled 'Simple Division' of Alfred Taylor of Great Leighs, Essex, n.d. [1770s]. Forty-four quarto pages with sections on division, contractions, addition, numeration, subtraction, multiplication and addition of money, weights and measures.
  2. Eight pages of handwriting exercises labelled 'John Beadle His Book' and dated on various dates in June and July 1771.
  3. Single page of medicinal recipes: 'A Ready Cure for a Rupture', 'To cure the Yellow Jaundice', 'A Remedy for the Chollick', 'Take a spider alive...' and 'Or take a Large Onion...', n.d. [1770s]. On verso, a list of villages and towns in Essex in roughly alphabetical order from A to D.

Kathleen Taylor (c.1916-1985) was the daugher of Harry Taylor whose family were the wheelwrights in Great Leighs, Essex.
