Biographical / Historical
Stephen Spender (1909-1995) was a poet, playwright, author and critic. For further biographical details see the Oxford Dictionary of National Biography.
Martin Myles Filler (b.1948) is an American architecture critic and writer. Born in Colorado, Filler studied art history at Columbia University. He has edited or contributed to various publications and journals relating to art and design including Progressive Architecture, House & Garden, Vanity Fair, The New Republic, The New York Times, The New York Review of Books and Art in America. He has also published several books on architecture. In 2003, he was elected a member of the American Academy of Arts & Sciences.
