Abstract

Images of works of art and architecture collected by Professor Fritz Heinemann (1889-1970), philosopher.

Biographical / Historical

Fritz Heinemann (1889-1970), historian and critic of philosophy of the 20th century, in particular existentialism, was born in Lüneburg, Germany. He studied philosophy at Cambridge, Marburg, Munich and Berlin and from 1930 to 1933 he taught at Frankfurt University. In 1939 he moved to Oxford and taught at Manchester College until 1956. In 1957 he was appointed Professor Emeritus in Frankfurt.

Arrangement

The collection had no clear arrangement on acquisition. The order in which it was presented has been preserved.
