Abstract
Papers of the Oxford-Borstal Camps, 1957-1976, n.d.
Biographical / Historical
The Oxford-Borstal Movement (later to be called the Oxford-Borstal Camps) was founded by The Rev. Joe N. Jory in 1957 and continued for nearly 20 years. Its aim was to give juvenile delinquents from H.M. Borstal at Hatfield a chance to be boys, to feel that they 'belong' and learn of their value to society. This was achieved with the help of undergraduates from the University of Oxford, mainly from Pembroke College. Every year several camps were held, predominantly at Spennithorne Rectory and Clifton Castle, but also in other places.
