Biographical / Historical

Lawyers Against Apartheid was founded in May 1987 to mobilise the support of the legal community in Britain for the liberation struggle in South Africa and Namibia. Affiliated to the Anti-Apartheid Movement and the Namibia Support Committee, it campaigned for anti-apartheid measures within the legal community, provided legal advice for anti-apartheid campaigns and activists, produced briefing papers and organised meetings and conferences, including 'The Liberation Struggle and the Law in Southern Africa' in April 1989.

Immediate Source of Acquisition

Donated to the Bodleian in 2024 by Mark Guthrie, former chair of Lawyers Against Apartheid.
