Abstract

Two photographs of forestry conference delegates.

Biographical / Historical

Following the serious shortages of timber caused by the First World War, the first British Empire Forestry Conference was held in London, UK, in July 1920 with the aim of conserving and developing forestry resources across the British Empire. Subsequent conferences followed in 1923 (in Canada), 1928 (Australia and New Zealand), 1935 (South Africa) and 1947 (London, UK).

After the foundation of the Commonwealth in 1949 the conference became the British Commonwealth Forestry Conference, meeting in Canada in 1952 and in Australia and New Zealand in 1957.
