Photographs of Eritea and Ethiopia (with one of the British landing in Ismailia, Egypt, in 1882) collected by Martin Plaut showing buildings, landscapes, named individuals, the conflicts of the 1930s-1940s and the liberation struggles of the 1960s-1980s. The majority of the photographs have captions on the verso. Some were taken by professional photographers and photo agencies and used in newspapers while others are unidentified.

  1. File 1: 19th century-1920s, including panorama view of Asmara and portrait of Dejaz Alamaieo, son of the late King Theodore of Ethiopia.
  2. File 2:1930s, predominantly depicting the Italo-Ethiopian War of 1935-1937.
  3. File 3: 1940s, including World War II.
  4. File 4: 1950s-1990, including Eritrean Liberation Front forces in the 1970s.
