Carte de Visites of cats by Henry 'Harry' Pointer

Biographical / Historical

Henry 'Harry' Pointer (1822-1889) was a Brighton-based photographer who became well known for his series of cartes de visite of cats in various costumes and poses. 'The Brighton Cats' series featured around 200 photographs of cats in various costumes and poses. Pointer's photographs were published in newspapers and magazines and were sold commercially across the country.
