Typewritten letter from Otto Dibelius (1880-1967) to Elizabeth Livingstone (1929-2023) signed and dated 28 January 1953. Dibelius informs Livingstone that he forwarded her letter to Günther Bornkamm (1905-1990), a German New Testament scholar, who runs the Martin Dibelius Foundation as it is he who will provide information about Martin Dibelius, Otto's cousin, for the Oxford Dictionary of the Christian Church. The letter in German was attached to a sheet of paper 'DIBELIUS, M. (addeda on Otto Dibelius)'.

Biographical / Historical

(Friedrich Karl) Otto Dibelius (1880-1967) held various positions within the Protestant Church, including that of assistant pastor at the Klosterkirche in Guben, archdeacon at St Mary's Church in Crossen an der Oder, assistant pastor at the Church of Ss. Peter and Paul in Danzig, chief pastor at Lauenburg in Pomerania, pastor of the Heilsbronnen congregation in Berlin-Schöneberg, executive secretary of the Mutual Trust Council in the Evangelical Supreme Ecclesiastical Council of the Evangelical State Church in Prussia's older Provinces, superintendent-general of the Kurmark and eventually Bishop of the Evangelical Church in Berlin-Brandenburg.

Elizabeth Anne Livingstone MBE (1929-2023) was an Anglican theologian and editor of The Oxford dictionary of the Christian church. Following the death of F.L. Cross, she became responsible for the Oxford International Conferences on Patristic Studies and edited their proceedings as Studia Patristica. She was awarded MBE for her services to patristic scholarship in 1986 and the President's Medal of the British Academy in 2015.
