Abstract

Summary of Harold Owen's memoirs of his farming days in Kenya.

Biographical / Historical

Harold Owen was born in Hornsey, London, in 1903. In 1929 he answered an advertisement from Lord Kitchener seeking a manager for a sisal estate in Kenya. He managed the estate near Moi's Bridge for one year and then bought his own farm near Kitale aerodrome. He was called up into the Kenya Defence Force in 1940 and served in Nairobi and Mogadishu. He was demobilized in 1942 and returned to his farm until 1965 when he moved to South Africa. He died in Cape Town in 2001.
