Album of photographs of the Emergency Blood Transfusion Service at the Social Centre in Slough during World War II. The photographs include donors giving blood, staff sterlizing bottles and preparing serum, and vans delivering the blood to hospitals. Photographs show the mobile unit operating in the Hall at Hambledon, Lord Hambledon giving blood and Princess Marina accompanied by Dame Janet Vaughan visiting the Service.

Biographical / Historical
Dame Janet Vaughan (1899-1983) was a haematologist and radiobiologist. She ran the blood transfusion service at Hammersmith Hospital before the Second World War and planned the national transfusion service. For further information see the Oxford Dictionary of National Biography.
