One formal and one informal photograph of the Oxford Exiles Rugby Football Club (c.1950), two 'invitation to play for the Club XV' cards addressed to Denis Hooper (Oct and Nov 1947) and a press cutting of a match photograph in the Oxford Times (29 Jan 1954).

Denis Hooper appears in all the photographs (third from right in back row of formal team photograph).

Biographical / Historical

The Oxford Exiles Rugby Football Club was founded in 1928 following an increase in the membership of the Oxford Rugby Football Club from schools which had begun to play rugby.

Denis Hooper was the son of Walter Hooper of the Oxford builders 'Hooper and Jones'.

Immediate Source of Acquisition

Donated to the Bodleian by Jane Campbell, niece of Denis Hooper, in 2022.
