Abstract
Papers of Robert J. Bruce relating to the New Bodleian Library during the Second World War.
Biographical / Historical
Robert J. Bruce worked at the Bodleian from 1959 to 2007. After retirement he began to research how the Bodleian's New Library building was used during the Second World War. The first part of the research, about how collections from other libraries, archives and museums were deposited for safe-keeping, was published as 'Deposits in the New Bodleian during the Second World War', Bodleian Library Record 26 (2013), pages 59-82.
The second part of the research, on the various tenants who occupied the building to undertake military and civilian war work, was not completed but the material gathered forms this collection.
Immediate Source of Acquisition
Donated by Robert J. Bruce in 2023.
