Letters and Documents relating to Lieutenant Roy Faulkner and the Gallipoli Campaign
Album containing letters from Roy Faulkner to his parents, 14 Jun 1915-9 Oct 1915, describing his journey to Gallipoli, experiences there and recuperation in Alexandria after being injured, with four photographs and a letter from a Mr Critchley to Mr Faulkner senior reporting on his son's recovery in hospital.
With War Office letter appointing Faulkner to the Army, 5 Sep 1914, telegrams reporting his injury, Aug 1915, leave of absence document, Nov 1915 and certificate of his mention in dispatches, Mar 1919.
With typed transcript of the letters and images of selected documents.

Abstract

Biographical / Historical
Roy Faulkner was living in Wimbledon, London, when he was appointed as a temporary second lieutenant at the beginning of the First World War. Posted to the South Lancashire Regiment, he sailed with the British Mediterranean Expeditionary Force to Gallipoli where he was injured during fighting in August 1915. He was evacuated to hospital in Alexandria and returned to England on medical leave in November.
