Abstract
Additional material of the Oxford University Cecil Sharp Club, 1906-2000, n.d.
Biographical / Historical
The Oxford University Cecil Sharp Club was established probably in 1947 in honour of Cecil Sharp, collector of folk music, lecturer and composer. The Club's aim was to promote English folk dances and songs. The earlier Consitution was revised in 1954. The Club's first President was Clive Walls. Apart from regular meetings and dance sessions, the Club organised two major balls a year, a Jane Austen balls and a Playford balls. There was a decline in activities towards the early 1980s and a discussion of the Club's revival in 1984-1986.
