Biographical / Historical

Sir Stephen Spender (1909-1995) was a poet, playwright, author and critic. Eric Robertson Dodds (1893-1979) was a classical scholar. He was the Regius Professor of Greek at Oxford, 1936-1960. For further details about Spender and Dodds see the Oxford Dictionary of National Biography.
