Abstract

Diaries of Harriet Acworth (d. 1846), 1833-1846, and of William Acworth (1803-1899), Evangelical clergyman, 1846-1896.

Biographical / Historical

Harriet Acworth (d. 1846) was the daughter of Emmanuel Miller and his wife Mary Garland Hart of Clifton and Farrs Wimborne, Dorset. She was the second wife of William Acworth. They married 12 September 1836 at Holt Church, Dorset. She died in childbirth at Rothley, Leicestershire and was buried there, 9 April 1846.

William Acworth (1803-1899) was born 9 September 1803 to William and Catherine Brindley. He went to Glasgow University and was awarded an MA in 1828. Later he attended Queen's College, Cambridge. He took Holy Orders in 1832. He was vicar of Rothley, Leicestershire, 1836-1853; Plumstead, Greenwich, 1853-1864; Poole, Dorset, 1867-1870; Walton West, Pembrokeshire, 1870-1875, and South Stoke, Somerset, 1875-1885.
