Edward Umfreville (1702?-1786) was a collector of legal manuscripts.

Sir Thomas Phillipps (1792-1872) was an antiquary.

Custodial History

Formerly owned by Edward Umfreville (d. 1786) - 'Umfreville MSS. no. 15' in Phillipps's hand (fol. 7); Sir Thomas Phillipps, MS. 25710, lacking fols. 1-24 of Phillipps's foliation; Sotheby's 27-28 Jun 1938, lot 446; H.R. Creswick; given to I.G. Philip, c.1939.

Immediate Source of Acquisition

Given to the library by I.G. Philip in 1976.
