Oswald Jennings Couldrey, 'Art Without Craft'
Biographical / Historical
Oswald Couldrey (1882-1958) was born in Abingdon, Oxfordshire and was an Abingdon Scholar at Pembroke College, Oxford. He lived and worked in India for ten years (1909-1919) and taught art at the Rajamundry College of Art in Andra Pradesh for eight of those years. He retired early, aged thirty-six, due to hearing loss, and returned to England. He continued to paint and to write for the rest of his life.
