Sketches of around 70 subjects on the Oxford Circuit in 1824 including men and women in the dock or witness box, judges, lawyers and members of the jury. The sketches record the clothes and hairstyles of the time, are half length or head and shoulders, captioned and drawn in pencil with a fixative.

The subjects include a number of 'bumpkins', 'a snob', 'a witness 90 years old', 'a Hobnail', 'a Welshman', 'an old Miner of the Forest of Dean' and a woman described as 'a Match for half a dozen Wigs'. Two of the identified individuals are James Stamp Sutton Cooke, 'the principal actor[?] in the farce of the Stafford Peerage', and 'a descendant of Sir Christ[opher] Wren'.

'Presented to Fra[ncis] Justice of Abbey House [Sutton Courtenay, Oxfordshire] by W.H. Bellamy' is inscribed inside the front cover.
