Abstract
Papers of Hugh Barker, LL.D., Prebendary of Chichester and Chancellor of the diocese of Oxford, and of his widow and daughter, 1553-1647.
Biographical / Historical
Hugh Barker was educated at New College, Oxford; in June 1605 he graduated D.L. at Oxford, being about this time chancellor of the diocese. He was admitted to the college of civilians in June 1607. Barker was also master of the free grammar school at Chichester for a time. According to the Dictionary of National Biography the statement that he was dean of the court of arches in London, for several years before his death in 1632, is an error.
