Biographical / Historical
James Legge (1815-1897) was the first professor of Chinese at Oxford, 1876-1897; he was also a missionary and sinologist. He married his second wife, Hannah Mary Willetts, née Johnstone, in 1859. They had two sons and two daughters. Further details are given in the Oxford Dictionary of National Biography.
