Biographical / Historical
Lady Daphne Moore's husband, Sir Henry Monck-Mason Moore, CMG (1930), KCMG (1935), GCMG (1943), joined the Ceylon Civil Service as a cadet in November 1910. He subsequently served as: 4th Assistant Colonial Secretary, Ceylon (1914); temporary commission Royal Garrison Artillery, Salonika, and British Expeditionary Force (1916-1919); Additional Assistant Colonial Secretary, Ceylon (1919); 3rd Assistant Colonial Secretary, Ceylon (1919); 4th Assistant Colonial Secretary, Ceylon (1920); Colonial Secretary, Bermuda (1922); Principal Assistant Secretary, Nigeria (1924); Deputy Chief Secretary, Nigeria (1927); Governor's Deputy, Nigeria (1927); Colonial Secretary, Kenya (1929); Governor and Commander-in-Chief, Sierra Leone (1934); Assistant Under-Secretary of State, Colonial Office (1937); Deputy Under-Secretary of State for the Colonies (1939); Governor and Commander-in-Chief, Kenya (1939); Governor and Commander-in-Chief, Ceylon (1944), and Governor-General and Commander-in-Chief, Ceylon (1948-1949).
