Journal (April to October 1859) written by Alice Mackenzie at Bishopstowe, Maritzburg, Natal, while with the Colensos, and given to Harriette Emily Colenso. A typed note at the front of journal says: "Journal written by Miss Alice Mackenzie while at Bishopstowe; the last letter written to her brother, The Rev. Charles Mackenzie later Bishop of the Central African Mission, and who died finally at his post in Africa."

The journal also contains a letter from Alice Werner to Sophia Colenso, wife of Francis Ernest Colenso (dated 6 December 1928), and 3 photographs labelled "H.E.C. [Harriette Emily Colenso] in Sweetwater" (dated 1928).
