Abstract
Archive of The Mind Asssociation, the oldest society in the United Kingdom devoted to the study of philosophy.
Biographical / Historical
The Mind Association was formally established in 1900. The Association is the oldest of its kind in the United Kingdom. It fosters the study of philosophy through a number of initiatives, among which the funding of research fellowships and conference grants, the organisation of the annual Joint Session with the Aristotelian Society and the publication of its Journal, Mind.
Arrangement
The arrangement of the archive reflects in part the structural organisation of The Mind Association and in part its core areas of activity as a society devoted to supporting research on philosophy and encouraging the academic study of this subject. The Archive has been arranged and subdivided into three series: Papers of the Officers of The Mind Association, Financial Papers and Miscellaneous Correspondence. Many of the papers presently in the Archive were used and collected by the treasurers of The Mind Association, which explains the preponderance of financial documents.
Immediate Source of Acquisition
The archive was donated to the Bodleian Libraries by The Mind Association in 2015 and 2016.
