Biographical / Historical

Brian Trowell (1931-2015) was a musicologist with interests in opera, early music and Elgar. In his early career he was a BBC radio opera producer, coach and translator; later he lectured at British and American universities (including University of Oxford where he was Heather Professor from 1988 until his retirement in 1996). Trowell also served on several committees of musical associations and editions. Further biographical details can be found in Grove Music Online.

Peter Wishart (1921-1984) was a lecturer and composer who studied with Nadia Boulanger in Paris. He is best known for his vocal music. Further details of his life and work can be found in Grove Music Online.
