Manuscript book of poems given by Elizabeth Jenkins to Sir Eardley Holland
A volume of poems, entitled 'A Garland of Yew', collated and written out by Elizabeth Jenkins, c.1944, for the eminent obstetrician Sir Eardley Lancelot Holland (1879-1967), with whom she had an affair (her 1954 novel, The Tortoise and the Hare, was said to be influenced by the termination of their relationship). The poems mainly relate to child-birth and death in child-birth, including an extract from Byron's Childe Harold on the death of Princess Charlotte (a topic Holland extensively researched).
