Abstract
Papers relating to Skokholm Bird Observatory
Biographical / Historical
Skokholm is an island 2.5 miles off the Pembrokeshire coast. Naturalist and author Richard Lockley leased the island from 1928 until 1948 and established Britain's first bird observatory in 1933. From 1976 keeping of bird records lapsed and the island lost its observatory status. The island was purchased by the Wildlife Trust of South & West Wales in 2006, and a refurbishment program was put into place in 2011. Observatory status was reinstated in 2015.
