William Graham was telegraph master at Eyre Patch Telegraph Station in 1893. Eyre Patch is on the south coast of Western Australia on the Great Australian Bight.

The letter was found in 2015 in the Bodleian's copy of the Journal of the Polynesian Society (1924).
