Typed, 26 page, transcript of a letter from Bessie Aitchison to her brother, Richard Maymon Hines, describing her experiences during the siege of Kimberley from 21 Oct 1899 to 22 Feb 1900. Page 20 of the transcript is missing.

Biographical / Historical

Bessie Aitchison, a school teacher from Manchester, lived in Kimberley, Cape Colony, during the siege by the Boers from 14 October 1899 to 15 February 1900. She kept her school open throughout the siege.
