Cambridge University Athletics Club (CUAC) was founded in 1857 and claims to be the oldest athletic club in the world. Oxford University Athletic Club (OUAC) was founded three years later, in 1860. The first Varsity Match between the Clubs, initially called the Oxford and Cambridge Athletic Games, was held in Oxford in March 1864.
