Biographical / Historical
Edward Tucker of Weymouth and Melcombe Regis (d 1737) was an MP. His two sons were John Tucker (1701-1779), MP, and Richard Tucker (1704-1777). His father was Edward Tucker (d 1707), a sectarian, who assumed the pseudonym 'Man of Love'. Edward Tucker MP, and his son Richard consecutively held the office of surveyor of His Majesty's quarries in Portland, 1714-1777. John Tucker was also cashier to the treasurer of the navy, 1744-1749.
The Gollop family was allied to the Tucker family by marriage. The Steward family were heirs of the Tuckers. The Browne family were heirs of the Tucker, Gollop, and Steward families.
