Summary
Autograph composing score of the cantata 'Auf Christi Himmelfahrt allein' (BWV 128) by Johann Sebastian Bach, composed in Leipzig for the feast of Ascension Day, 10 May 1725. The libretto is by Mariana von Ziegler, adapted slightly by the composer.
The manuscript comprises 8 folios (16 pages) in 4 bifolia, written in brown/black iron-gall ink on up to 22 hand-drawn staves per page. With corrections and revisions.
First published in the Bach Gesellschaft edition (1878)

Biographical / Historical
Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750) was a German composer and organist. Details are given in Grove Music Online and many other sources.
Christiana Mariana von Ziegler (1695-1760) was a German poet and writer, active in Leipzig at the time of J.S. Bach, several of whose texts were set by him.

Immediate Source of Acquisition
Accepted in lieu of Inheritance tax by HM Government in 2024 from the estate of Sir Ralph and Lady Kohn, and allocated to the Bodleian.
