Biographical / Historical

Brigadier Donald H. Nott, DSO, OBE, MC, DL was educated at Marlborough College and Sandhurst, and commissioned to the Worcestershire Regiment in 1928. He served in Germany, Malta, China and India with the 2nd Battalion. Then, with the 1st Battalion, he took part in the Arab Rebellion, 1938 and in the Abyssinian and Western Desert Campaigns of 1940-1942 in World War Two. In 1945 he commanded the Regiment's 9th Battalion. He was Commandant of Eaton Hall Officer Cadet School, Chester, 1950-1952 and Commanding Officer, 4th Battalion, King's African Rifles, Uganda and Kenya, 1952-1954, during which he was engaged in operations against the Mau Mau. On returning to England he commanded 158 Infantry Brigade (TA) at Lichfield, of which the 7th Battalion, Worcestershire Regiment (TA) formed a part. He attended a course at N.A.T.O. Defence College, Paris, 1958, undertook a short tour of duty at the War Office, 1959 and retired from the Regular Army, 1960. After his retirement he served as Assistant Civil Defence Officer for Worcestershire and County Commissioner of the St. John Ambulance Brigade. He was appointed Colonel of the Worcestershire Regiment in 1961.
