Book files are arranged in publication order, with each book arranged in the order (where extant): Baskin making copy; Baskin mock-up; research, manuscripts & drafts; text proofs; art proofs; page proofs; printer's matter; binder's matter; woodblocks and etching plates.

Texts have been arranged in publication order where this is clear from contents listings or numbered typescripts/proofs. Texts are arranged by set, progressively in chronological order of development as far as this can be discerned. Art is mainly arranged by image rather than set and the order of development is not always apparent, although images are arranged closer to a chronological order of development when they have been marked by the artist 1st state, 2nd state etc, where black and white precede colour proofs, or where the colour block prints that make up an image are extant. Where printed art is labelled, it is kept in publication order - although some art proofs have been kept in the artist's original order, especially if pasted down (as in all the making copies), or arranged by size (or) for conservation reasons.

All book files are dated with the year of publication only, even where some of the items in the file are individually dated.
