Historical ledgers, 1910-1963
Eleven ledgers of Ducker & Son, Oxford shoemakers and sellers, covering the years 1910-1963. The ledgers provide records of shoes made and services rendered to individual clients, including J.R.R. Tolkien, Evelyn Waugh, Lord Nuffield, Lady Ottoline Morrell, Randolph Churchill, The Duke of Argyll and others. Each ledger includes an index of clients at the front, followed by details of completed orders (names, addresses, services, order numbers where 'S' denotes 'special' and 'SO' is a 'special order', with prices paid). The latter part is in chronological order from the date of the first order with subsequent orders added under the same name.
