This section of Sankey's papers consists of various items, nearly all drafts, notes or copies of speeches, which have been kept in the same order as Sankey himself arranged them. Items other than speeches, mainly drafts and copies of articles and reviews by Sankey, are cited individually in the following description. Sankey himself compiled indexes to these speeches and papers; the folios at which these indexes are now placed are indicated. A notebook containing a compilation of these indexes is to be found as MS. Eng. hist. f. 21. Although most of the speeches are arranged chronologically, it should be noted that a number of speeches referred to in the latter part of the description do not form part of this sequence.
