General political correspondence and papers, 1877-1929
Sandars's general correspondence and papers, including many of the papers of A.J. Balfour and Henry Matthew. For the period of Balfour's prime-ministership, they include considerable internal correspondence between Balfour and his Private Secretaries, as well as extensive correspondence of Balfour and Sandars with members of the Cabinet. For the period of conservative opposition after 1905, there is much correspondence with leading politicians, journalists and others about the state of the party and politics in general. These papers are arranged in chronological order as follows:
