Biographical / Historical
Following the 1950 General Election the Organisation Department undertook a review of every aspect of the Party's Election campaign and organisation. Each department and area office submitted a report on its General Election work, and a senior Party officer carried out a detailed investigation of how well each section of the organisation had operated. A large dossier of information on each department and office was accumulated, from which was written a general report on Party organisation during the election campaign. The result is a thorough analysis of the campaign and of the organisational efficiency of the Party machine working to its very limits. The files contain much material from the election itself - leaflets, circulars, posters, minutes and memoranda of the Tactical Committee, Reports of the Public Opinion Research Department, etc. They are, however, essentially review files compiled after the election.
