The Women of the Year lecture was the occasion on which Hodgkin, invited to speak on 'A woman's best friend', delivered a fervent tribute to Thomas. The lecture greatly moved its hearers and the occasion made £23,000 for the blind. The speech was broadcast on BBC Radio 'Woman's Hour'.
