Moore came from the University of Auckland and, after a period as a researcher at Harwell, worked for his D. Phil, with Hodgkin at Oxford and B.T.M. Willis at Harwell on a neutron diffraction study of vitamin B12. He subsequently made his career at the Australian Institute of Nuclear Science and Engineering.
