Robert Murray was an engineer who spent time in Russia and Malta in the 1840s and 1850s. He went to Egypt in the early 1850s to work on transportation systems. He taught himself photography from a book and photographed Malta and Egypt, later publishing views as albumen prints. He is known to have used the Calotype process, from which the published albumen views were printed.
