Biographical / Historical
Charles Spencer Scrase Dickins was nephew to the Duke of Northampton, President of the Royal Society. He likely learned of WHF Talbot's Calotype process while in his 20s, through his uncle's regular scientific gatherings. He began making calotypes of his home in Coolhurst and the Kent countryside around 1854. He visited Rome and Florence in 1856 and 1857, creating Calotype views of the places he visited.
