Cephalosporin C, 1959-1973

Cephalosporin C, an antibiotic related to the penicillins, was first isolated by G.G.F. Newton and E.P. Abraham in 1955. Soon after this Hodgkin made the first crystallographic measurements on the sodium salt of cephalosporin C.
