Compiled by English & Son and Robert Hume, containing about 12,000 works, arranged by size, and room by room within each size, giving author, title, place and date of publication and number of volumes (bindings not described), with (passim) 'Notes' written in the margin, to indicate that a work contained Beckford's reading notes. The manuscript includes:
- (pp. 366-7) a list of 'Books sent to London'
- (pp. 369-72) books in Lansdown Tower 'with Mr.Beckford's MS. notes'
- (pp. 375a-380) illuminated and other manuscripts, many of the entries annotated with Hamilton Palace sale dates and lot numbers (1882-9)
- (p. 381) a note of the total valuation - £26,614; items in the inventory are not valued individually. The entry (p. 261) for Beckford's copy of his Recollections of an excursion (1835) is annotated 'taken by Duchess'.
