Biographical / Historical
The Department of Education and Science was created in 1964 when the offices of the Minister of Education and Minister of Science merged. In 1992, the department was renamed the Department for Education, when the Office for Public Service (see CRD/B/35 below) took responsibility for science. In 1995, the department merged with the Department of Employment and became the Department for Education and Employment. In 2001, the department was renamed the Department for Education and Skills following the transfer of employment to the new Department for Work and Pensions.
