Biographical / Historical
Following Sir Christopher Prout's defeat in 1994, Lord Plumb succeeded him as Leader of the Conservatives in the European Parliament, and as a Vice-President of the European People's Party (EPP) Group. He held these positions until 1996, when he was succeeded as Leader by Tom Spencer, the Chairman of the British Section, and as Vice-President by James Provan, a move which enabled the two leadership positions to be combined again. Plumb stood down from the European Parliament at the 1999 European Elections.
