Biographical / Historical
The Colyton Committee was set up following a resolution passed by the Central Council of the National Union on 22/03/1957 'That this Council, noting the difficulties in finding suitable men and women to undertake the duties as officers and committee workers in the constituency and branch organisations, and recognising that people today are often not able to give unlimited time to politics, calls upon the Executive Committee of the National Union to consult with the Chairman of the Party Organisation with a view to the setting up of a Committee to examine the structure of the Party organisation with the aim of cutting out non-essential committees and in general streamlining the Party organisation so as to bring it into line with present-day requirements.'
